Our method

How We Test

Every product goes through the same trial on a real car, with real tools — and we write the numbers down.

Our rules

  • We buy it. We pay for the gear we test. If a brand ever sends us a product, we will say so in the article.
  • Same trial for every product. Products in a category go through the same steps, so the results can be compared.
  • Real cars, real conditions. We test in a garage and on the road — not just on a spec sheet.
  • Numbers, not feelings. We measure with reference tools and publish the results in tables.
  • Our own photos and video. Every review shows the actual product we tested.
  • We update. Long-term tests get dated updates, and articles show when they were last checked.

What we measure

Jump starters

  • Real starts on a real engine, including cold starts
  • How many starts you get from one full charge
  • Recharge time, clamp quality and cable length
  • Safety features: reverse-polarity and spark protection

Tire inflators

  • Gauge accuracy, checked against a reference tire gauge
  • Time to fill the same tire to the same pressure
  • Auto shut-off: does it stop at the pressure you set?
  • Noise, measured at one meter

Battery chargers & maintainers

  • Charge time on the same drained battery
  • Weeks-long maintenance on a stored vehicle
  • Ease of use: modes, display, clamps and ring terminals

How we score

Tested products get our own score from 0 to 10. Most of the score comes from the measured results (performance and accuracy). The rest comes from ease of use, build quality and safety, and value for the money. We do not use or show Amazon star ratings — our score is based only on our trial.

What the labels mean

  • In the test queue — we plan to test it. No score yet.
  • Trial in progress — we are testing it now. No score yet.
  • Tested — the trial is done and the score is published.

What we never do

  • Give a score to a product we have not tested.
  • Sell scores, rankings or "best" spots to brands.
  • Copy specs from a store page and call it a review.
